You may know him as the mutton-chopped, tambourine-banging jester from the Brian Jonestown Massacre and classic documentary Dig! Now dig Joel as singer, guitarist and songwriter, fronting his amazing seven-piece band, the Primary Colours, in a rooftop rave-up for Apple Bonkers, the first Joel Gion solo album. Opening will be Philly/SF psych maestros, the Asteroid No. 4, as well as the California Raga Association, bringing classical Indian music to the roof. As if that’s not enough, White Light Prism will be spewing lightshow all over the unsuspecting building next door. There will be the extraordinary chocolate photos – that’s pictures printed on chocolate, people – of Cocograph. And there will be Indian munchies. Many thanks to promoter and co-producer Kymberli’s Music Box and its eponymous proprietor, whose BD it happens to B (but don’t tell).
